Today was a wonderful day. We were able to be discharged and head home. Strapping the sweet baby into her car seat for the first time was nerve wracking especially with an audience (nurse and family). Reading the pamphlet ahead of time can only prepare one so much for the inevitable struggle with straps, buttons, latches etc. But we eventually got her all loaded up and drove away from the hospital.
Once we got home, the real chaos began. Our dogs were so excited to see us. They were especially happy to greet my wife who had been away for about 48 hours by that point. While they wanted all the attention, our baby needed to be fed, then changed from a disaster of a dirty diaper. Honestly, these first few hours were incredibly overwhelming as we tried to navigate what our lives now look like at home with a newborn.
I’m just so glad I have a great partner to take this journey with and the most incredible daughter to raise, love, and share life with.
Here’s to hoping we get some sleep tonight!
So long for now.
