Day 10
Today I found it interesting to think about the world from my daughter’s perspective of “firsts.” My wife and I dressed and secured her to the stroller and embarked on her first walk through the neighborhood. It was really the first opportunity for her to spend a meaningful length of time in nature. The fresh air and sights and signs of the outdoors did all of us some good.
Another funny first was having to file her finger nails with an Emory board. I wouldn’t have thought merely a week and a half into life she would need a manicure! But her little fingers had some sharp claws. So while she napped in the early evening, my wife dulled them one by one, pausing when she would retract her hand instinctively.
Everyday life is only normal because the experiences are no longer novel. But to a new human, so much is new, exciting, scary, sensory and more. It’s a good opportunity to remember the beauty of daily life and to have gratitude for each new day to experience it .
So long for now.
