Day 11
Christmas Eve. This is my daughter’s first Christmas though at not even two weeks old, there’s not a gift in the world that she would remember. But she’s the best gift in the world to me, and it has been an experience already that I will never forget.
The holiday season makes me think about traditions. I don’t think I had many Christmas traditions when I was a young lad. I remember laying out a platter of cookies for Santa and some carrots for his faithful reindeer and opening presents early Christmas morning. But when it comes to meals, or activities, I don’t have strong associations. We didn’t play specific Christmas music as we decorated the tree or have an annual gift exchange with extended family.
I feel tasked with a responsibility to make holidays memorable or meaningful in some way. Maybe it’s cooking a specific dish, or adopting a family to give gifts to. I’m not sure exactly what this looks like yet, but I want to have memories with family that are more than watching sports on tv and small talk.
So long for now.
