Day 5
Today we went to the pediatrician’s office for our daughter’s first visit since coming home from the hospital. The appointment went well and she’s hitting all the right markers so far! By the way, it was nice to get out of the house after a couple of days being cooped up at home.
I want to talk about practitioners in the medical profession. Over the last few weeks, I have had more encounters with the medical system and the people who work within it than I have had in many years. From hospital and clinic administrative workers to nurses, medical assistants, doctors, and pharmacists, many people work in concert to deliver care in our system.
I was so impressed and humbled by the clinical workers who provided professional, competent and compassionate care in every situation. They excelled in the services and treatments they provided while also projecting a genuine human interest and connection. One nurse in labor and delivery would tend to my wife’s needs with the intentionality of a craftsperson. What I mean is that she was in the zone as she moved around the room briskly, confidently, and purposefully. She paid attention to every detail ensuring my wife and baby were safe and comfortable. I appreciated this so much.
Patients can often feel helpless, scared, and uncertain during medical episodes. But great people work tirelessly in every doctor’s office, hospital, etc. I want to thank every medical professional who has chosen to dedicate much of their lives to helping people in times of need.
So long for now!
